A Brief History
Clinch Valley Baptist Association was organized in 1856 and was composed of churches in Lee, Scott, and Russell Counties of Southwestern Virginia. Baptist Associations that were later formed from Clinch Valley Baptist Association were Powell River Association (1894) and Wise Association (1927).
Reverend Paul Blessing served as associational missionary from 1972 to 1987. Prior to that time, Reverend Herbert Tuck served the Clinch Valley Baptist Association jointly with Wise Baptist Association as superintendent of missions. Reverend Leon Castle also served Clinch Valley Baptist Association while pastoring Fort Robinson Baptist Church in Kingsport, Tennessee. Reverend Clyde Simms was director of missions for the six-year period ending December 1993. Reverend William Kendrick served as director of missions from July 1994 to December 1995. Both Reverend Simms and Reverend Kendrick were part-time directors of missions. Reverend Jerry Hall was director of missions from 1996 until December 31, 2006.
